[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row 0=””][vc_column 0=”” width=”1/2″][vc_custom_heading text=”The Brief ” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:25|text_align:left|line_height:5″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The client which approached us was the owner of a hotel in Gorleston named ‘The Cliff’, aptly named due to its perfect coastal location, sitting proudly on top of a cliff face overlooking Gorleston beach.

With such an idyllic location, the hotel had understandably seen a lot of success, with many holidaymakers booking to stay at the hotel throughout the year to enjoy the Gorleston coastline.

As a result of this success, the owner wanted to have a 2nd floor extension added to the front of the hotel. This would create a large amount of extra space which could be used for an additional 12 bedrooms with ensuites for guests to stay.

With regards to layout, the client explained to us that he wanted the layout for the proposed 2nd floor to be copied from the 1st floor of the building. This would help keep the building consistent throughout, giving guests a familiar feel for the building.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”The Objective ” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:25|text_align:left|line_height:5″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]To perform a survey for the whole of the ground and first floor, and draw up plans for the desired 2nd floor extension to the building. Included in this work would be the drawings for the construction of a new roof for the newly built second floor, which would need to be kept in line with the conservation area. [/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”The Result” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:25|text_align:left|line_height:5″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Having met with the owner of the hotel to discuss the options available, we took a measured site survey and a series of photos from inside the hotel of the areas where the work would take place. After having done this, we then began drawing up the location and block plans, as well as the plans for the elevations which would be required for the 2nd floor extension.

Once the drawings for the initial plans were completed, we could then begin starting on designing the proposed drawings for the 2nd floor extension. These were largely based off of the plans for the 1st floor, following the clients wishes for the layout to be copied. Also in this stage of the project was the plans for the new roof. Which in order to be in keeping with the conservation area, was copied from the rear of the building.

Design drawings complete, we then headed to the Gorleston seaside to share our work with the hotel owner and discuss any changes he might have wanted to make. After having confirmed he was happy, we could then set to work on to the next stage of the project which was the all important final proposed plans and elevations for the project.

Once complete, we then sent the plans off for planning and Cil application. Having been accepted by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, this gave the all clear for the building work to begin. This work would enable The Cliff Hotel to house more guests, and further enhance it’s fantastic reputation.

The success of the project was highlighted in an article by The Yarmouth Mercury, in which Great Yarmouth Borough Council spoke of how the project would help support their objectives of boosting tourism in the area.

A job well done!

We highly recommend them, and will most certainly use them again should the need arise.”
